FCA, the parent company of Fiat, Jeep and Abarth brands in India has played all its cards wrong, but only until now. Yes, we know that Fiat India is struggling hard in India with sales going down to such an extent that the company actually did not manufacture a single car in December, 2016. They did launch some promising products like the 595 Abarth and the Punto Abarth but nothing seemed to have worked for this Italian brand in India. So, why are we saying that FCA is going to get its first break in India? Read below and find out!
On 30th August, 2016, FCA finally launched the Jeep brand in India by launching two promising products, the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee. However, just like the other products from FCA, these two capable SUVs also failed to make a major difference, largely because of the high price tag! All thanks to the taxes levied on CBUs.
Fast-track to 2017 and we are very much optimistic about FCA’s, epecially Jeep’s future in India. The brand finally has a ‘Compass’ that will help it to move in the right direction. Okay, no more suspense! Jeep is going to launch the next generation of the Compass SUV in India this year and we have all the right reasons to cheer about this news.
2017 Jeep compass will be manufactured in India at the company’s facility in Pune. The design of the SUV is bold, aggressive and tough, just like an American SUV should be. The front of the Compass SUV looks so much like its bigger sibling, the Grand Cherokee, and that’s a plus for Jeep, given the popularity and goodwill the bigger Jeep enjoys. It has everything that will appeal to the Indian buyers, An aggressive front nose, tough body cladding, high stance and a ground clearance that can take on just about anything that comes its way. Its not only the exterior that is gonna appeal to the masses, as soon as you step inside the Compass you’ll be equally surprised by the beautifully laid dashboard. The design is futuristic, modern and complete with all the bells and whistles one can demand for.
Mechanically, the new Compass will be powered by a 2.0L Multi-Jet engine that produces 165PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 6 speed manual or a 9 speed automatic, depending on the variant. A 2.0L petrol engine is also expected to be on offer. To complete the True blue SUV package, Jeep will offer a 4WD variant of the Compass as well.
All this sounds like a very good package? Yes, it surely does. But here’s more to it.
The news that will give its competitors a nightmare is that Jeep is expected to price the Compass at Rs 15.99 lakh! Yes, It means that it will undercut the Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Endeavour and will directly take on Mahindra’s XUV500 and Tata’s Hexa.
Looks like Jeep has a winner in Compass and this Compass will surely take the brand North.
