Hyundai Motors, India’s 2nd largest automaker in terms of sales is working on a new small car for India, Internally known as ‘AH’, the new car will launch sometime next year. Interesting part is that with this new hatchback, Hyundai will bring back the name Santro to the Indian market. Hyundai Santro has been Korean car makers most successful product in India and has sold over a million units since its launch in the year 1998. However, After 16 long years, Santro was finally laid to rest in the year 2015 to make way for newer generation models like the Elite i20 and the Grand i10.
So, what’s coming?
The upcoming Hyundai Santro will replace the Hyundai i10 and will sit between the Eon and the Grand i10 in Hyundai’s product portfolio. It will bid good bye to the tall boy stance of the original Santro and will boast of a completely new design that will be much more aggressive and bold, like we have seen in the Renault Kwid. It will also have a very futuristic design complete with a typical Hyundai hexagonal front grill, swept back head lamps and an SUVish stance to woo the Indian consumers.
Mechanically, the new Hyundai Santro is expected to get two engine options, a 1.1L IRDE petrol motor and a 1.2L Kappa Petrol motor, which we all are familiar with. Both the engines will be mated to a 5 speed manual gear box, While a new 4 speed automatic is also expected to debut along with the car.
Hyundai India is expected to unveil the production variant of the car next year at the 2018 Auto-Expo In Delhi and is expected to price it somewhere around 4 – 6 lakh to take on the Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago and also it will be Hyundai’s answer to Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming Kwid rival.
