Mahindra Rexton! That’s right not Ssangyong Rexton, just has been revealed at the 2018 Auto Expo, and it’s a lot like the Ssangyong Rexton, except that it has a Mahindra badge and features few cosmetic tweaks. According to M&M MD Pawan Goenka, the vehicle will not carry have the Rexton name badge when it goes on sale in India later this year.
Grille tailors with Mahindra’s XUV-TUV-KUV design ethos and has worked on the suspension softer, adjusting the ride height and better handling package in an unprecedented effort to make it better suited for Indian road conditions.
This will be Mahindra’s flagship model who really needed a vehicle that was supremely upmarket, and the “Rexton” is exactly that, hovering at the top of M&M’s passenger vehicle line-up, right above the XUV500.With a ladder-frame chassis, the Rexton is the biggest Mahindra SUV as they come, and is also properly spacious, having a length at 4,850mm, width at 1,960mm and 1,825mm in height.
The engine for the Rexton in India is expected will be a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine making 187hp and 420Nm of torque, that will be mated to a seven-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox. All-wheel drive will be offered in addition to the standard 2WD variants.
Rexton will be loaded with equipment and has projector headlamps, a humongous 9.2-inch HD touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as in the standard package, a 360-degree camera, another 7.0-inch LCD instrument cluster, cooled seats, upmarket Nappa leather upholstery and a smart LED tailgate. Mahindra will also locally assemble the Rexton to avoid the increased taxation CKDs and CBUs are subject to.
A price tag of Rs 24 lakh (ex-showroom), Mahindra intends to undercut its rival-in-chief, the Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour, by as much as Rs 10 lakhs when it goes on sale around Diwali later this year.
